About Gitpython Project Gitpython

CVE-2026-67326 affects Gitpython Project Gitpython, a product from Gitpython Project. Before acting, confirm where Gitpython Project Gitpython runs in your estate, who owns it and whether it is reachable from the internet, because exposure decides real risk more than the score alone.

What the flaw is

In plain terms: GitPython before 3.1.50 fails to validate newline characters in the section parameter of config_writer(), allowing attackers to inject arbitrary section headers into .git/config. Attackers can inject newlines to create a forged [core] section with hooksPath pointing to attacker-controlled directories, achieving remote code execution when git hooks are triggered.

The weakness class is Improper Input Validation. The software trusts input without checking it is safe.

Based on its CVSS vector, the flaw needs local or adjacent access, needs no login, and relies on a user taking an action. Apply the vendor fix and confirm exposure on internet facing and business critical assets first.

How to detect it

  • Inventory every instance of Gitpython Project Gitpython and record the running version against the affected range above.
  • Check external attack surface scans for internet facing instances of the component.
  • Review logs on affected systems for unusual requests, errors or new processes around the vulnerable function.
  • Confirm with an authenticated vulnerability scan once your scanner has a check for this CVE.

How to fix it

  • Apply the fixed version of Gitpython Project Gitpython named in the vendor advisory.
  • If patching must wait, restrict network access to the affected service and put it behind authentication or a web application firewall rule.
  • Rescan after the change to prove the exposure is gone, then close the ticket.

Gitpython Project Gitpython

GitPython before 3.1.59 fails to disable merge_includes when parsing .gitmodules, allowing attackers to disclose local file content by including arbitrary file paths via [include] directives. Attackers can craft a malicious .gitmodules file with include directives pointing to sensitive files; when repo.submodules is accessed, GitConfigParser raises MissingSectionHeaderError embedding the target file's first line verbatim in the exception message.

CVE-2026-44243
Gitpython Project Gitpython

GitPython is a python library used to interact with Git repositories. Prior to version 3.1.48, a vulnerability in GitPython allows attackers who can supply a crafted reference path to an application using GitPython to write, overwrite, move, or delete files outside the repository’s .git directory via insufficient validation of reference paths in reference creation, rename, and delete operations. This issue has been patched in version 3.1.48.

CVE-2026-42284
Gitpython Project Gitpython

GitPython is a python library used to interact with Git repositories. Prior to version 3.1.47, _clone() validates multi_options as the original list, then executes shlex.split(" ".join(multi_options)). A string like "--branch main --config core.hooksPath=/x" passes validation (starts with --branch), but after split becomes ["--branch", "main", "--config", "core.hooksPath=/x"]. Git applies the config and executes attacker hooks during clone. This issue has been patched in version 3.1.47.
