About Opencascade Open Cascade Technology
CVE-2026-42478 affects Opencascade Open Cascade Technology, a product from Opencascade. Before acting, confirm where Opencascade Open Cascade Technology runs in your estate, who owns it and whether it is reachable from the internet, because exposure decides real risk more than the score alone.
What the flaw is
In plain terms: An issue was discovered in VrmlData_IndexedFaceSet::TShape in the VRML V2.0 parser in Open CASCADE Technology (OCCT) V8_0_0_rc5 allows attackers to cause a denial of service via a crafted VRML file. The issue occurs because malformed VRML input can trigger dereference of a corrupt or unvalidated pointer during shape construction in libTKDEVRML.so.
The weakness class is NULL Pointer Dereference. The program uses an empty pointer and crashes.
Based on its CVSS vector, the flaw can be reached over the network, needs no login, and needs no user interaction. Apply the vendor fix and confirm exposure on internet facing and business critical assets first.

How to detect it
- Inventory every instance of Opencascade Open Cascade Technology and record the running version against the affected range above.
- Check external attack surface scans for internet facing instances of the component.
- Review logs on affected systems for unusual requests, errors or new processes around the vulnerable function.
- Confirm with an authenticated vulnerability scan once your scanner has a check for this CVE.
How to fix it
- Apply the fixed version of Opencascade Open Cascade Technology named in the vendor advisory.
- If patching must wait, restrict network access to the affected service and put it behind authentication or a web application firewall rule.
- Rescan after the change to prove the exposure is gone, then close the ticket.
CTEM action plan
| CTEM stage | What to do for this CVE |
|---|---|
| Scope | Add every business service that depends on Opencascade Open Cascade Technology to the current CTEM cycle. |
| Discover | Find all instances, including shadow and cloud deployments, and record versions and exposure. |
| Prioritize | Rank using EPSS and CVSS together with asset exposure and business impact. |
| Validate | Confirm the flaw is reachable and exploitable in your environment and that compensating controls work. |
| Mobilize | Assign the fix to the asset owner with a due date matched to the priority, then verify closure. |

A heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerability in RWObj_Reader::read in the OBJ file parser in Open CASCADE Technology (OCCT) V8_0_0_rc5 allows user-assisted attackers to cause a denial of service or obtain sensitive information by persuading a victim to open a crafted OBJ file. The issue occurs because Standard_ReadLineBuffer::ReadLine() can return a 1-byte buffer for a minimal OBJ line, and RWObj_Reader::read() calls pushIndices(aLine + 2) without validating the buffer length.
Two heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerabilities in the STL ASCII file parser in Open CASCADE Technology (OCCT) V8_0_0_rc5 exist in RWStl_Reader::ReadAscii because buffers returned by Standard_ReadLineBuffer::ReadLine() are not properly length-validated before strncasecmp or direct byte access. User-assisted attackers can trigger these issues by persuading a victim to open a crafted STL file with extremely short lines, resulting in a denial of service or possible information disclosure.
cpp-httplib is a C++11 single-file header-only cross platform HTTP/HTTPS library. Prior to 0.44.0, When the server has called Server::set_trusted_proxies() with a non-empty trusted-proxy list, an attacker can send an HTTP request that includes an X-Forwarded-For header whose value parses to no valid IP segments. The code path then executes get_client_ip(), which calls front() on an empty std::vector—undefined behavior in C++. On typical implementations this manifests as abnormal process termination (denial of service). With Sanitizers enabled, you get an explicit runtime diagnostic. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.44.0.
CWE-476 NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability exists that could cause a denial-of-service condition, rendering the device’s HMI and configuration functionality unavailable when malformed requests are received over exposed network interfaces.
Free5GC is an open-source Linux Foundation project for 5th generation (5G) mobile core networks. Versions prior to 1.4.2 are vulnerable to procedure panic caused by Nil Pointer Dereference in the /sdm-subscriptions endpoint. A remote attacker can cause the UDM service to panic and crash by sending a crafted POST request to the /sdm-subscriptions endpoint with a malformed URL path containing path traversal sequences (../) and a large JSON payload. The DataChangeNotificationProcedure function in notifier.go attempts to access a nil pointer without proper validation, causing a complete service crash with "runtime error: invalid memory address or nil pointer dereference". Exploitation would result in UDM functionality disruption until recovery by restart. This issue has been fixed in version 1.4.2.
libde265 is an open source implementation of the h.265 video codec. Prior to version 1.0.17, a malformed H.265 PPS NAL unit causes a segmentation fault in pic_parameter_set::set_derived_values(). This issue has been patched in version 1.0.17.
