About Misskey

CVE-2026-28431 affects Misskey, a product from Misskey. Before acting, confirm where Misskey runs in your estate, who owns it and whether it is reachable from the internet, because exposure decides real risk more than the score alone.

What the flaw is

In plain terms: Misskey is an open source, federated social media platform. All Misskey servers running versions 8.45.0 and later, but prior to 2026.3.1, contain a vulnerability that allows bad actors access to data that they ordinarily wouldn't be able to access due to insufficient permission checks and proper input validation. This vulnerability occurs regardless of whether federation is enabled or not. This vulnerability could lead to a significant data breach. This vulnerability is fixed in 2026.3.1.

The weakness class is Improper Authorization. The software does not check whether a user is allowed to perform an action.

Based on its CVSS vector, the flaw can be reached over the network, needs no login, and needs no user interaction. Apply the vendor fix and confirm exposure on internet facing and business critical assets first.

  • Review logs on affected systems for unusual requests, errors or new processes around the vulnerable function.
  • Confirm with an authenticated vulnerability scan once your scanner has a check for this CVE.

How to fix it

  • Apply the fixed version of Misskey named in the vendor advisory.
  • If patching must wait, restrict network access to the affected service and put it behind authentication or a web application firewall rule.
  • Rescan after the change to prove the exposure is gone, then close the ticket.
